Behind the Scenes of Our Latest Team-Building Adventure
At HookedOnMedia, we’re big believers in the power of remote working. It gives our clients access to a wider talent pool, greater flexibility, focused productivity, and reduced overheads – which means we can deliver smarter, faster, and more innovative digital marketing services.
But while we thrive online, we never underestimate the value of real-world connection. That’s why we host quarterly team days – a chance to step away from our screens, reconnect in person, and recharge the creative batteries. Over the years, we’ve tried everything from paintballing and bowling to zip-wiring and go-karting. This time, we opted for something a little more relaxed… and a lot more scenic.

With our out-of-county colleagues – Stephen, Dhilin, Minnie, and Carmen – expertly holding the fort, the Cornish crew (Stewart, Andrew, Shaun, Hayden, Louisa, Holly, Helen, and Lee) swapped laptop screens for sunscreen and set sail from Truro for a day of sun, sea, and shuffleboard.
We boarded our Fal River Cruise from the sleepy village of Malpas and sailed past paddleboarders, yachts, and lush, wooded valleys. With views of Tudor castles, hidden creeks, and historic estates, this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offered the perfect backdrop for a digital detox (and a bit of tuna-spotting from Director Andrew, of course).

Landing in Falmouth – still buzzing from the International Sea Shanty Festival – we wandered through the cobbled streets before escaping the heat and retreating into The Games Room for some much needed refreshment. Now it was time for the competition to begin! Cue table games, and a fiercely competitive shuffleboard showdown between two very evenly matched teams.

Next up: lunch. Resisting the temptation of Trago, we made our way to The Stable for a sun-drenched alfresco feast on the harbourfront. Even the ever-hopeful seagulls couldn’t ruin the Mediterranean-style marina vibes.
To round off the day, we jumped aboard the Falmouth Branch Line for the scenic train ride home. With the Cornish countryside flying past the windows, we dived into an onboard team quiz. Shaun delivered a masterclass in the social media round, while Andrew & Stewart impressed in Holly’s abbreviation round (though we’re still not sure who really knows what GIF stands for)!

While day-to-day we’re usually deep in the world of SEO, PPC, and analytics – it was refreshing to swap pixels for pizza, ping pong, and the occasional off-topic chat about penguins (you’ll have to ask Hayden).
