Our Digital Marketing Predictions for 2017
A new year brings new opportunities for the likes of SEOs, digital marketers and businesses and 2017 is set to be the year of full-frontal social engagement. We think the next 12 months are going to be a game-changer, and here’s how you can keep up with the tides.
1. Social, Social, Social
Facebook is set to get bigger and better this year, and will continue to create opportunities for businesses to make cash from their platform. Not only do Facebook ads walk all over Google ads with their targeting features, but live video, Facebook Messenger Chat Bots and the expansion of Facebook Marketplace are all draws for businesses to spend more and more money with Facebook in the next turn around the sun.
On the other hand, Twitter has stepped back from their place in the world as a social network, and is now focused on being the world’s go-to for breaking news. This means that marketing opportunities will be reduced and your £’s will be better spent on other, more lucrative social platforms.
2. Budgets will move to social
In today’s world, people spend a serious amount of time on social media. So much so that it could almost be seen that people live on it. People pick up their phones to browse through Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, and don’t put them down again. Smart marketers know that they need to get in front of their audience, and instead of throwing money at magazines and newspapers, social media is where budgets will be focused in 2017. Creating and investing in creative content for social channels will be a big push this year.
Video is also set to get even bigger in 2017, and although this used to come with a hefty price tag, that is no longer the case. Think short, snappy and subtitled (for those sneaking a look on Facebook at work and can’t have sound).
3. Mobility is key
Over 50% of all Google searches are now done on mobile, and being mobile friendly will put you on the road to success this year. Google is soon to launch a new mobile-first platform which will prioritise websites which are mobile-friendly. This means that sites which are responsive will be bumped higher in the SERPs than those that are not, even if your desktop-only site is awesome.
The exact date of this change has not yet been announced, but its worth investing the time into making sure your site is ready now!
