Exploring the Playful Potential of AI With ChatGPT
Let’s begin 2023 on a lighter note by unveiling the fun side of ChatGPT: the viral AI chatbot that’s taken the internet by storm.
Unless you’ve been off-grid for the last month, we’re sure you’ve heard of ChatGPT. ChatGPT was released late November by OpenAI and is a variant of the popular GPT-3 language model. OpenAI, creators of the text-to-image generator DALL-E, developed this AI chatbot to understand and generate human-like text, making it a powerful assistant for brainstorming ideas, writing code, creating (often terrible) poems and learning about topics in a way that sounds strikingly human.
ChatGPT can engage in casual conversations with users, simulating dialogue through follow-up questions, confessing mistakes and rejecting unsuitable requests. This AI chatbot also possesses an extensive library of knowledge on most topics, so it can talk about anything. According to OpenAI, this ChatGPT model is constantly evolving with a machine-learning technique called Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF).
Our team has experimented with this technology for the last few weeks to see how it could handle coming up with catchy slogans and brainstorming blog post ideas. We were impressed by some results, while others were incoherent or inaccurate. This AI chatbot clearly has its limits, especially as it bears restricted knowledge of the world and events after 2021. As such, it’s useless if you want to find breaking news or information past this date.
That being said, ChatGPT is stacking up to revolutionise many aspects of the web as we know it, and in turn, also the digital marketing landscape. The ‘question and answer’ style interface from OpenAI is something completely new and all inspiring. The automation applications for this technology are also seemingly endless!
Many articles have flooded the internet with concerns about this technology and its potential to replace people or alter the search landscape as we know it. After a couple of weeks of use, we’ve discovered that this tech still has a long way to go before it can replace actual people (few!)
There’s also concerns regarding the abuse of this tool. A significant example being the mass production of essays by students at the click of a button, or a future web scape filled with automatically generated and plagiarised content. There are already steps in place to combat these concerns, with third-party companies writing applications to identify AI text versus human text. AI providers have also discussed embedding buried patterns into the generated text to make it instantly possible to identify AI content.
Here’s what our Managing Director & PPC Expert, Stewart Roode, has to say about this tech:
“AI is already implemented into ad platforms such as Google Ads and Meta Ads regarding automated ad suggestions, machine learning to increase ad performance, and ROI goals. But it’s still exciting to see its capabilities within OpenAI’s ‘question and answer’ format. The future of search itself also has a question mark hovering over it… how will search engines utilise this technology, or will search engines be replaced by AI?”
We’ll just have to wait and see. However, one early public move is Bing recently announcing that they are integrating ChatGPT into the Bing search engine. It’ll be interesting to see how much effect this could have on the market share predominantly owned by Google. One thing for sure is that search engines have been integrating AI for some time now and we’re sure they will be closely scrutinising all aspects of this question and answer style AI for future updates.
So what’s your stance? Is this chatbot a groundbreaking new piece of tech, a fun way to pass the time, or a significant threat to how we create content and search for information online? Whatever you decide, today we’d like to discuss the lighthearted, fun side of ChatGPT by unveiling some of our favourite features.
1) Tell Jokes
This AI chatbot can tell many (often terrible) jokes from its exhaustive database of jokes and humorous anecdotes. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic one-liner or a more complex joke on a particular topic, ChatGPT is sure to have something up its sleeve.
2) Creative Writing Prompts
ChatGPT can help get your creative juices flowing with suggestions for poems or plot twist ideas for stories. One of our favourite features is asking the chatbot to write about a topic in a particular style. For instance, a specific author or figure. Here’s its attempt at writing about ChatGPT in a pirate’s voice:
3) Plan Parties
This AI chatbot can plan parties by generating a long list of to-dos. You can even personalise the event to specifics such as the recipient’s interests or age. We asked the chatbot to plan a party for a child that loves space, and here was the response:
We’re sure you could use this feature to brainstorm ideas for almost any business plan, including social media campaigns or physical/virtual events.
4) Play Games
If you’re feeling particularly lonely or want to kill some time, you can ask it to play a game with you. We’re not sure why someone would want to do this; nonetheless, we decided to try it out to see how it handles the interaction. When asked, “play a game with me”, the chatbot came up with a list of games from its database.
We chose rock, paper, scissors, and after a few rounds, it was clear it didn’t understand the rules. Nor does this type of game work with the ‘question and answer’ style interface, as both answers need to be said simultaneously. 20 Questions was a much better use of the ‘question and answer’ interface.
5) Give Recipe Ideas
We asked the chatbot if it could give us an apple crumble recipe in the voice of Dr Seuss. It handled the query exceptionally well, structuring each cooking step into buoyant rhymes. While we probably wouldn’t make an actual crumble following these imprecise but cheerful steps, there’s a plethora of ways you could adapt this feature to be helpful. For example, you could instantly ask the chatbot for a recipe adapted to your dietary requirements or the ingredients in the cupboard.
Final Word:
ChatGPT is a fresh and entertaining tool that brings a bit of artificial intelligence into your daily life. This blog post focuses on the playful aspects of this technology, but it also has endless practical applications in digital marketing. For example, this chatbot can generate ideas for marketing campaigns or social media posts. It can also answer any burning questions a novice digital marketer might have on using Google Analytics or Ads. As we explore its full capabilities, we’ll be keeping an eye on how this technology may shape the future of the search. Stay tuned to hear more about the next developments in AI search.
