Raising the Bar Online: Putting The Plume of Feathers on the Digital Map
Raising the Bar Online:
Putting The Plume of Feathers on the Digital Map
When experienced publicans Leigh and Cathy Parry took over The Plume of Feathers in Portscatho, they knew its exceptional food, hospitality and boutique accommodation needed an online presence to match.
Before pulling their first pint, they called in HookedOnMedia to increase visibility, attract new customers, and build a digital strategy that would support the pub’s next chapter.
Through Local SEO, social media ads, and a brand-new website, we’ve helped position this historic Cornish pub for long-term digital growth.

Pulling in the Crowds with Local SEO
Our Local SEO strategy focused on improving The Plume of Feathers’ visibility across Google Search and Google Maps, ensuring potential customers could find the pub when searching for places to eat, drink, or stay in the area.
Since implementing our strategy:
- Mobile search impressions have increased more than fivefold
- Google Maps visibility regularly generates 300-400 daily views
- Website visits, phone calls and direction requests continue to grow
- Organic traffic engagement rate reached 71.6%
Through ongoing Google Business Profile optimisation, review management, category refinement, and local relevance improvements, the business is now achieving stronger visibility across South Cornwall and converting more local searches into real-world visits.
Serving Up Social Success
HookedOnMedia also partnered with The Plume of Feathers to elevate their paid and organic social media activity
To create content that genuinely reflected the venue, our team visited the pub to capture original photography and video showcasing:
- Fresh locally-caught seafood
- Popular Sunday roasts
- The coastal setting and atmosphere
- The pub’s exciting new chapter under new ownership
Rather than targeting broad hospitality audiences, we built highly focused campaigns around seafood lovers, food enthusiasts, and people actively searching for places to dine in Cornwall.
One boosted post announcing the new ownership generated more than 1,300 reactions, helping introduce Leigh and Cathy to the local community while significantly increasing engagement.

Turning Paid Social into Pub Visits
Alongside awareness campaigns, we launched dedicated follower-growth campaigns designed to strengthen the pub’s long-term social presence.
Across five sponsored campaigns, we achieved:
100,000+ local people reached
1,300+reactions on a single boosted post
Hundreds of new followers within the first few months
Campaigns targeted audiences within a 20-mile radius, including Truro, Falmouth and St Austell, while also capturing visitors already exploring Cornwall.

Using behavioural and interest-based targeting, we focused on:
- Seafood enthusiasts
- Restaurant and pub-goers
- Users searching for local dining options
- People engaging with similar hospitality businesses
To take things to the next level, we partnered with a local food influencer to create authentic review content, while also capturing standout drone footage to showcase the pub’s food, atmosphere and coastal location.
Over the eight months following our takeover of the account, content views exceeded 1.25 million – an increase of more than 700% compared with the previous eight-month period.
A Modern, Mobile-Friendly New Website
To further support The Plume of Feathers’ growth, we completely redesigned and rebuilt the website, creating an online experience that reflects everything guests love about visiting in person.
Designed to Capture the Character
The new website combines the warmth of the pub’s historic interiors with the charm of its coastal Portscatho location, bringing the venue’s unique personality to life online.
Built for Bookings
User journeys were streamlined to make it effortless for visitors to:
-
Book a table
-
Reserve accommodation
-
Browse menus
-
Discover upcoming events
Optimised for Performance
Behind the scenes, we improved page speed, technical performance, and local SEO foundations to support future growth and search visibility.
By combining Local SEO, paid social advertising, organic content creation, and a fully redesigned website, The Plume of Feathers has quickly established a stronger digital presence under its new ownership.
