Nervous, excited and walking into the unknown describes how the team was feeling when we walked into our local radio station to take over the airwaves for the very first time as none of us had any experience of radio before.

The good news for us was that the session was pre-recorded so we could make any necessary changes in case of any mishaps. As it happened, we managed to do the whole interview in around 15 minutes at the first attempt.

Having grown up in Cornwall, I have been a Pirate FM listener ever since the station launched on April 3rd 1992 at Redruth’s Wilson Way industrial estate. It was only the second radio station to launch in Cornwall after BBC’s Radio Cornwall in January 1983. Despite never appearing on the show itself, I have very good memories of visiting the stand at the Royal Cornwall Show and collecting their car stickers.

As a new innovative online marketing agency, one of our objectives is to increase the HookedOnMedia brand awareness locally so we were delighted to be approached by Pirate FM’s, Isha Pitt who invited us in to help launch the Pirate 2 Business Hub.

In January this year, Mark Peters, Managing Director at the UKRD’s groups Cambridge based station took over from Beverly Wearne.

Mark, who comes from a programming background and has been a presenter and Programme Controller, has held the post of MD at Star Radio decided to launch the Pirate 2 Business Hub following its success in Cambridge.

The Business Hub which will be launched this month will broadcast specialist programmes catering for all sorts of interests – including The Business Hub, The Health and Wellbeing Show, The Education and Training Show, The Farming Show and The Homes and Gardens Show.

These shows will bring together top experts from across Cornwall, who will host the shows and share their knowledge and enthusiasm for their subject.

Listeners are able to tune in online, through iTunes and DAB digital radio, meaning you can choose whether to listen live or catch up with your favourite shows when it is more convenient. The HookedOnMedia team enjoyed a rare trip away from the office as we were given an opportunity to brush up on our interviewing skills to help launch the new Pirate 2 Business Hub.

The team gave a number of top tips away on SEO, PPC and the importance of updating content on a regular basis.

Each show will be broadcast on Pirate FM 2 DAB Digital Radio at 7pm each weekday evening. This means that as soon as the shows have aired, the shows will be available to listen to online at Pirate2.co.uk.
